It makes sense that there will be a new bad guy. Actually, there has to be a new one in my game, the old one's are all dead.

there will be something involving lester and his deed to the mountain fort and mines?
the kings area (whole new world) where you become part of the kings whatever?
hmmm then go back to mine world for what? the land of the king
LOL another BG2? in 3d YEAH BABY! so many tasks and then some just put it in DVD disk

I think you should play a new character because it would be stupid if your old character was suddenly weak again. At the end of the game you can fight your old self like on pokemon red,blue to pokemon gold,silver.
Ok laugh i played Pokemon, i admit it.
It was a while ago and i was only 11 then.
