Fair enough, but tell me does choosing a different option in the dialog mean I don't have to go the district to find the cure? Does it really affect the game at all? Does my alignment affect the game at all?
In answer to your question, yes alignment affects the game and how some NPCs react to you, but no it doesn't totally change the main plot. Factions have an impact also, so depending on your race you might get a different typ of response from NPCs. Also, your stats and abilities can influence conversations in NWN. At some point in conversations, you can "persuade" people to either give you more gold for a certain task, or to give you some information that cannot be accessed if you fail your persuasion throw, or if you can't do it at all. The matter of fact is that these things affect gameplay, things that didn't have an effect in DII if we must compare them. Apart from the way you damaged and attacked enemies in DII the game played the very same way, and the conversations were identical. Granted, skills and abilities or even alignment won't change the whole campaign in NWN, it won't let you see a totally different story. But it does affect little things, and open up some side quests that are not open to everyone.

And Diablo II gave you many different ways to create a character type.
True, it did. But in a sort of limited way too. As I said before, you could'nt get a lightning attack the sorceror gets for your Barbarian, could you? But yes, it did offer customisation. But to say that it did as much or even more so than NWN is far from being true. Maybe you need to play around with the character creation in NWN a little bit more

I'm just talking about the single player which I still don't see that much of a difference to justify derision(sp??) towards Diablo and adoration towards NWN
I totally agree with you. And I am not defending NWN with derision. I liked Diablo II, up to a certain degree. I just didn't find it to be a true Role playing. But saying that doesn't mean it's bad! It's very good in its own right. And NWN is good also, but has more depth than Diablo in its single player experience. Yes, you can clearly see Diablo's influence in NWN, no one denies that. But there a certain degree of roleplaying that can be achieved by yourself in NWN that just cannot be done in Diablo II. _________________ =Proud Father of a new gamer GIRL!=
