VtM: Bloodlines - Post Release Interview @ GameBanshee |
|
GameBanshee got hold of Leon Boyarsky from Troika to chat about Vampire: Bloodlines post-release. There's nothing terribly revealing but this question might cast a little light on the QA crunch:
GB: Personally, I very much enjoyed the different traits available during character creation in Arcanum. Why were character histories like Eerie Presence and Rapacious Bloodlust removed from character creation in Bloodlines, and whose decision was it to have the feature removed?

Leonard: When we created the character histories, Activision didn’t think they could test them adequately in the time remaining and thought it would be safer to remove them.
|

I think it is just plain silly how VtMB gets consistent mediocre reviews where as LotR 3rd age gets great reviews. There will never be a more repetetive game made than 3rd age unless someone makes a game called "Dig a Big Hole" where you just dig a big hole.
If you are going to review a game as an RPG then review it compaired to all the rpgs being released. VtMB, has crap combat in my opinion and I have some problems with character creation and development, but at least it has a character creation and a more indepth development than 99% of the "rpgs" being released or have been released in the past 5 years. And the rest of the game is pure rpg goodness.
These rpg reviewers should either stick to Final Fantasy or have fair comparisons. Troika is the only devs, besides spiderware, that consistently comes out with great rpgs that I like. Arcanum, ToEE, and VtMB are all games I give an A compaired to competition. They all had their problems, but prolems and all are still consistently better than any other offerings in my opinion. |
