Well, I still use my Star Wars (and other) action figures - as position markers in real (pen&paper) RPGs. Everybody has their figure with them which is used to portrait their character in those popular scenes which demand some kind of blips... I take it all of us old-school gamesmasters know the pains of going through a 'I wasn't the first person to enter - me neither' scenario.
Besides, my action figures multiplied over the years. And yes, when I buy a new 12"er, I get all mushy  .
So much for age and action figures.
Ah yes. I still play MoonPatrol on my old Atari 2600, and I love every second of it. I never really wondered why I thought this or that old game great in its time... mainly because I still love and play them today.
And I want one of those net-access retirement homes places too.

I am 27 years old, started playing around the time Doom II came out, and have been doing it ever since. So i guess been 10 years. Time flies when yer having fun, i always say, especially when you are listening to goa and psytrance, hehe. And DzD is about 32 years old, i am guessing. (just a guess) 
EDIT -- i just remembered something else. My parents bought a $5000 computer called an Apple IIgs and the first cool game i played on it was Ultima 5 Quest of the Avatar, and then my cousin comes in and ruins the number 4 and 5 disks, so i couldnt play it anymore. but i forgave him for being a moron  so i went on to program my own CRPG in Applesoft BASIC and i did it, it was just about as good as Ultima 5 was, but i was only like 14 years old so i didnt think to sell it to a publisher. Man, there was NOTHING out for Apple IIgs except for Ultima. Man those days were crappy, compared to now. But it did have a sort of 'magic' to it that has not faded for me -- i feel the same 'magic' every time i open up a new gamebox. |

That's cool that there are SO many old gamers.
I`m 19 years old and every week my mother tells me I`m too old to be playing video games.
Makes me feel better!!!!! 
I wish my dad played RPGs give us something more to have in common.
My parents lothe video games you older gamers 40 and 50 year olds are great!!! |

I dont think it comes down to age at all. Just imagination
People with strong and vivid imaginations inevitably NEED games/books/films in their lives, imagination is like everything else in that it needs to be satisfied:)
I would bet most avid gamers, especially those in the RPG and more involved catgories are creative and imaginative type. I find with myself that ignoring my creative needs is impossible, leave it long enough and I get cravings and just need to get creative and satify it again.
I am almost 30 now, and I am quite sure its something I will always do. Escaping into a game and imersing myself in imagination is just part what is natural to me.
If it wasn't games it would be something else I bet. The imagination is a wonderful thing enjoy it if you have it.
Really i feel sorry for the dull unimaginative people of the world, they miss out on a lot
Maybe its not real, but with a good imagination in full swing, the satisfactions and pleasures are as real as any !! |

Couldn't agree more DeilsBane. I'm 27 and I still love computer games. They act as a release for me but I must admit I much prefer games with a strong story (I love epic games such as Fallout and the BG series). I'm not a huge fan of FPS but Adventure and RPG's really do keep me entertained. Combine this with an interesting in films, books and my ever lovely girlfriend and I think that represents a reasonalby balanced social life (oops forgot about the daily running and the going out with friends )
To me a good computer game is like a good movie or book - one I get into it, I'm in it until the end
