adjusting sight distance 400%...1000%?

Today i have been browsing round the gothic sys files and noticed some scripts for adjusting sight distance. Imodified one of them, but nothing happens. I have previously installed mod kit so i can viev all files un compiled.

I would like to adjust that sight so much, that one would be able to see ships on really long distance in my mod. You know, i would make enorous water surface few islands and ships. I hope it would work. If it ios even possible?

I know a console command exists to disable fog. Then the viewing distance is massive, but the game will become unstable because most PCs can´t handle the load.
400% was possible in the first Gothic. I´m not sure about G2.

Well that is probably named hacking, but I was curious and have edited some deadelous script files. Nothing happened. I probably havent packed them into mod, so how do you pack up your mod! There arent any english mod tutorials!

In G2 it's 300%

About the mods, I believe there are a few here on rpgdot that know how to make such a mod. Even if you know german, the german mod tutorials won't help you if you don't have quite some modding knowledge already.

Draw Distance

Crikey.... I have an AMD64 3000+, 2GB DDR400 and a 6800GT and am lucky when I can actually hit F4 while running around (ie between populated areas) I realise from reading various threads that G2 is very CPU bound (changing AF+AA has no impact on frame rate)...I would love to know what configs ppl have that can go beyond 300.

Anyway..back to the swamp

I always play in F4 mode with the exception of khorinis, which I do merely to avoid the annoying slowdowns. I've never noticed crappy framerate except in the main city.
Specs on my comp are laughable at best, but will soon be upgraded. I imagine that the engine simply was not optimized resulting in the necessity of a significantly better computer to show minimal increases.

Anticipating G3 with every breath,
