I don't mean to bring you down or anything, but getting the fx5600 probably wasnt the best decision. You could have got a superior Radeon 9600 for around the same price, and been able to test the game on a totally different chipset. But oh well. FXes are supposed to have the very best image quality, and thats what you seem to like. |

Well…I’ve gone and done it this time. In my quest to develop a system that will handle Gothic at a decent clip I have created a monster (and money pit). Started out buying two Seagate SATA 120g drives and ended up with this Mod in progress (Pic shows cooling test).

I got a monster computer..p4 3.2, 512mb ddr, ati radeon 9800 pro, 80gb seagate sata HD and Gothic 2 runs like ass In khorinis everything maxed, it goes as low as 17 although it averages around 23-25 i think. Seems to jerky for my taste so I actually run the city at 100% viewdistance there at least its 30+ always. Well 1 think i found is i can run 6x Antialiasing and 16x anistrophic filtering with no performance hit so the graphics card isnt the bottleneck, the cpu CANt be the bottleneck, and the HD cant be either, shouldnt be in games. I think its the ram is, ive seen people with much inferior equipment but with twice the ram almost match my framerate. Also to clarify radeons have superior performance and image quality compared to fxes and thats not coz I got a radeon thats why I got a radeon. So there are my tips for making a monster computer, get ati and lots of ram. But I doubt if anyone can make gothic run smooth (40 is smooth, 30 is borderline...) anywhere at 300% vd. Also 1 think seems to be strange that seems simlar to the problem, when i had my old computer p3 550, xabre 400, 512 ram gothic 1 seemed to run faster than that compared to my current computer :S |

I agree…The biggest improvement I made was going to a matched set of 512s. I am hoping that the new setup will gain me some performance. I should be able to get the 2500+ Barton up to at least 2.4G. With the two Seagate 120G SATA drives setup in a RAID 0 config, there hopefully be no bottle neck in raw I/O.
