I'm currently busy with NWN right now, but I can see myself get IWD 2. I'll probably wait for RPGDot's review and the first price drop. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

We'll have a preview up in the coming week. A real review will have to wait until it hits gold. _________________ Kewl quotes:

I'm looking foward to it
I loved IWD! by the way what was your party?
mine was
human paladin
half-elf fighter/thief
2 half-elf fighter/clerics
2 half-elf fighter/wizards
That party rocked! 4 melee and 2 battlemages behind who could also shoot bows or melee if they had run out of spells
Now that IWD2 has 3rd edition rules goodbye to multiclass fighter/spellcasting types (they were too powerful anyway) |

No doubt I'll be getting it.
I've had fun with Gothic, Morrowind and NWN but I'm itching to get back to a party-based isometric RPG and they don't get any better than BIS products.

Sweet party. I just read that you can pick sub-races that have unique skills and feats for your character. So you could have a Wood-Elf Ranger or maybe a Drow. Plus they are using the 3E rules....this game sounds very solid so far. _________________ = Member of The Nonflamers' Guild =

They use most of the 3E rules, some things they haven't covered though. Today I learned that Spell Resistance stacks. Meaning the SR for your class and SR for your race will be added together. From the IWD2 forums:
quote:
Have any of you actually thought through what happens if SR stacks? It doesn't really matter for six characters games with players who don't milk XP out of everything, but there are a lot of people who play with small parties, single characters, or play through in HoF mode. If a 13th level drow monk has SR stack, the result is 23 + 24 = 47 SR! You would need to be 27th level to HOPE to overcome that 5% of the time. At 20th level, this becomes 30 + 31 = 61 SR. And that ignores the possibility of having random items and spells grant additional SR bonuses. Sorry, it just doesn't work. It makes those characters, for all practical purposes, completely invulnerable to magic.
And there are indeed subraces for dwarves, elves, gnomes, halflings and humans. I have a list here.
BTW... I'll move this to the proper D&D forum. _________________ Kewl quotes:

My party in IWD, BG1, and BG2 is always boring, yet highly effective:
2 male human fighters
2 elven female clerics
2 male human magic-users
who needs thieves? not me.
BTW Icewind Dale is probably the most played game i have ever had except for the retarded Doom2 freak frenzy that happened to me one time (hey there was nothing else to play at the time except Betrayal at Krondor)... |

Thanks for the link Myrthos,
You can even play as a half-deity - Aasimar, sub-race of a human. So far character creation sounds like it will be a game in itself. A party of six 3E characters will probably mow through just about anything. _________________ = Member of The Nonflamers' Guild =

Well as already introduced in Heart of Winter, the monsters will be matched to the average level of your party. It is also claimed that it's impossible to play the game with a single character, unlike Icewind Dale 1. _________________ Kewl quotes:

Aasimar aren't half-deities. They're rather wimpy (Great paladins and clerics, though) people born DESCENDED from some sort of divine blood (like... you're grandfather was an Astral Deva or something).
Your mother or father would be a half-celestial... and with complete immunity to 3 elements, the ability to throw around clerical spells on the side rivalling a level 14 cleric just for something to do, and an average of +2 to +4 to every attribute... they would seem more like a deity. Even then they're pale comparisons to your grandfather/grandmother... who, as a Astral Deva or Solar, can face down just about anything and survive. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

I am really looking forward to Icewind Dale 2
Only wish it would be possible to import a party from IDW1. |

There are several reasons why that's not possible. The first being that the timeframe of IWDII, would make your party consists of old folks
Secondly, they would have a lot of work to do to transfer the weapons, armor, items and character stats from 2e to 3e. Which in itself is probably the reason they did not want to do the first _________________ Kewl quotes:
