While I won't go so far as to say you are a loon and there is no game, his excuse that release was delayed because his portable battery died is pretty laughable. I mean, what a convenient excuse ! Talk about feeding the flames of conspiracy surrounding this game

That is a good one. That is why I never announce anything. I have done work on a few things, and even released a few tiny things...but a game is a HUGE project.

It just takes a ludicrous amount of work to do something like that on your off time.

Yes I think we've all read Cleve's made up excuses on his main site over and over again. But yeah somehow we're supposed to believe that this one is different. Now I'll grant that there is always that tiny chance that common wisdom could be wrong and the game could come out some day. But currently all evidence points to the contrary.

Anyway, given that the game was supposed to be "on the verge of release" when Corwin gave his supposed review, I think we can probably all agree that if it does not come out in 2005, then the game (and the review) are definetely a fake. Would even those few remaining diehard grimoire supporters agree to that?

I'm skeptical too and I know that CB is an absolute loon. I still hope the game gets released though. There just isn't that many crpgs available any more. The guy is an overweight cream puff and thinks he's the living embodiment of G. I. Joe A warped mind like his might make for a great fantasy game.

My one concern is that if there are puzzles and riddles in the game to solve, will they reflect CB's dementia? That would make the solutions very difficult to figure out. We'll find out pretty soon I guess.

Corwin, you met this guy in real life. Does he seem stable? I've read several hundred of his newsgroup posts over the years and the guy seems certifiably insane.

You know, it would be very funny if the guy just turned out to be some nutjob and there is no such game at all.

I wonder how far some schitzo could get by simply faking it?

I do believe there are previewers who say they have actually played the game, though, so there must be SOME form of game.

The word folks is vapourware. He is worse than the loathsome liar Derek Smart. At least Smart was able to spew out a few poor games, proving he is capable of coding something, even if it is rotten.

He is famous now for producing nothing, he's become a joke. It's as bad as Duke Nukem.

I'd be delighted if he turned out to be a lunatic.

CRPGNUT, you I will answer. He is a completely rational and friendly person with a great sense of humour who enjoys pricking pompous gluteae maximae!!

Oh, I'm one of those previewers who has played the game through!!

So the guy is a rampant pervert who grabs or rapes ass? Nice. I hope you had fun.

If you have played all the way through, tell him to release his damn game because it is finished. That is how it works.

As it is all I see in forums when him or his vapour game is mentioned is people pointing out what a joke he is. Sucks to be him. Even Necrotech has a better reputation than him, and that is saying something. No one even expects him to release the game now, and they have all pretty much stopped caring too. It's kind of sad really. The longer he waits the more difficult the release will be too. He's digging his own grave now.

He should just move on, at this point it's just looking unhealthy for him.

You'd be better waiting to win the lottery and become king of the universe, than wait for his game to come out he just doesn't want to release it.

So, Fez, why do you care? I would guess from your comments you weren't reading Cleve's old postings on Usenet back in the day and you probably don't know he has dozens of games released on the C64 etc. So...he's just some guy writing an indie game in his spare time...why would you care how long he takes?

Fez, I played the game through, that doesn't mean it's finished. First there was more content to add, such as random encounters in some areas, and not all the chests for example had anything in them yet. There were some bugs and links that needed fixing. That's why it was a pre-beta test Most, if not all of these are being fixed, or have been fixed. The game will be out this year, after the final beta test.

I will repeat my offer to all doubters. Put your money where your mouth is. Fly down to Australia and I will let you play the game on my PC. I'll even arrange a personal meeting for you with Cleve.

Oh, one final point Fez. I have a very good sense of humour as well, but please don't try to pervert my statements. You know what I meant with my description of Cleve's humour!!

Why would I care about his old posts? A worthless point, try harder. The games he releases years back mean nothing. That was around 85-88. He's been a large waste of flesh since. Romero was involved with some great games back in the day, but then he showed his true colours as a moron.

Coding a few cheap games for the C64 is nothing compared to producing a modern game, as the vapour king has found out himself. No one cares about "Lunar Buggy" for the C128, or his crap clone games, or text adventures. I've played them, and I wasn't impressed with them years ago, I am still not impressed.

Maybe if he'd stuck to Ahoy! magazine he'd have made even more crap games for you to masturbate over.

Also an extra note for the clueless: Quantity does not equal quality.

I care because he is a liar and has duped some even less intelligent people who do not know any better into following him and giving him frequent sloppy verbal handjobs. E-G-O. He blows his own trumpet and you all come running to to the call to give him some more advertising and another boost.

BTW, A poor attempt with the straw man attack, Dhruin.

We've all heard his promises (lies) before. Anyone who immediately believes him is a fool.

I remember when Grimiore was due for release in 1997.

No thanks, if you are both that desperate for company, try and escort agency or a prostitute. Last thing I want to do is be kidnapped by a lunatic and raped in his screwy bunker with his sycophant. I'll send you some KY jelly instead.

Liar.

It's sad to see blind fan boys. Publishers love them though, so someone has to keep EA in business, I suppose.

An extra treat to show what a twat he is:

http://www.xenmagazine.com/article.php?story=20041006102453146

"Name: Grimoire

“Release” Date: Any minute now, supposedly.

What is it? One-time game designer and current full-time Internet wacko Cleve Blakemore’s “retro” six-hundred hour role-playing game, which was originally described as a “Wizardry 8 killer”. Humorously, Wizardry 8 was released three years ago.

Chance of actually being released: 0.00001%

What’s the hold up? Blakemore is, as it happens, nuts. He was one of the designers of the Wizardry series, but split from Sir-Tech during the production of Wizardry 7. He then claimed that he was going to produce the greatest role-playing-game of all time. That was about eight years ago, and to date his sum total of showable work on this supposed masterpiece has been a half-dozen screenshots, all of which look like something that could have been created, not coincidentally, eight years ago.

Mitigating factor: If you check out his website at http://grimoiresystems.com, you can read about how he believes the world is coming to an end and see pictures of his Australian bomb shelter. Seriously."

I'd say it was his mind that ended, rather than the world. What a moron. He's a fat, useless nut job. I've read enough of his lies to last a lifetime. At this point even if his game finally does come out it'll still be a mediocre clone at best. He should have stayed with sir tech and then he'd at least have been involved with a game release and had a decent résumé. At this point I don't know if I should be disgusted with him, or if I should pity him.

I've also read his forum and that has only shown up him and you for what you are.

You have lost any kind of objectivity and refuse to listen to sense. You have become a sycophant. We'll see in the next year or eight if he releases is or if you are still defending him and telling people what a great guy he is while you admire your erection.

I think this guy probably does think the world is going to end soon and he was hoping that it'd end before he had to release his game. That's why he delays it so much.

corwin - Oh and really, no one except an utter idiot is going to travel by plane to try out a clone of an old game on your PC, so saying that was just stupid and you should know that if you have a shred of sense.

Your arguments are very poor. I see there is no point arguing with you. You will not listen to reason and you'll just get upset. You will refuse to change your mind as you've become blinded to anything else. Fair enough. I see you've got your quirky church stuff too, so that gives me an idea of what you're like. Enjoy waiting for the mediocre game, maybe one day he'll crawl out his shelter before the world ends and either do something worthwhile with his life or release his game to the world. I don't hate you so I am not going to slug it out if you don't want to. It is the vapour man's dishonesty and lies I dislike. His incoherent ranting is just gravy for it all. He reminds me of "Dr" Derek Smart, a loathsome, bigheaded liar of a man.

On another note, if the world did really end, would he really want to survive on his own in a bomb shelter with all his friends and family dead, or just sit back and watch everyone die? Horrible.

Personally I think I'd rather stick with the people I love until the end, rather than abandon them all. Kind of creepy and sad otherwise. I have no respect now for this man, he has shown no reason for any. It saddens me to see you waste your respect on someone who does not deserve your devotion.

I don't know what got you wound up like this and I don't care either. Behave and try to discuss in a civilized manner or don't bother coming here at all.

Wow

I just checked in on RPGDOT for the first time in a long while to see if anything interesting was up.

Pretty obsessive stuff up here. I'm kind of amazed anybody would take it quite that personally that an old fashioned indie RPG is not finished yet.

I really enjoy writing computer games and I hope most people would understand that it is hardly likely you could be more disappointed than I am that it has taken this long to finish my game. I doubt you would have as much time and work invested as I do - and yet I don't get as upset or angry as some of the people up here seem to. Considering they seem bound to question my sanity, it's odd they lack perspective on their own reaction. It's just a game, fellows. It's not going to solve the cold fusion problem or deliver food to the third world.

On another topic, one of the main reasons that civil defense is so misunderstood is that modern people don't love one another very strongly. Deep down, they don't much care about their own families or their children, assuming that they even have such responsibilities. They mainly care about shopping, cappuccinos and television. For most of their adulthood they never really take the initiative on anything, leading largely passive lives as consumer units and the idea of becoming attached to anything enough to engage in struggle is foreign to them. Even seeing anyone take control of their lives and their own security is very strange to people who long ago consigned all power over their existence to the state, which is a poor provider of such things at best.

People build shelters precisely because they do want to protect their loved ones and see to their safety. It is exactly because we do not want to abandon our family that we go to such pains to see to their safety. The truth about modern people is that deep down, they suffer the most terrible innui and utter helplessness - they call this their politics, but it is more like what rushes in to fill a vaccuum.

For over 12 months I cleared rocks and cleaned out the floor of a 25 meter deep pit working past midnight because I am not a passive observer along for the ride the way many of you are. I'm a lot like your parents or those people you are always ridiculing in Pleasantville, where people do not consider glib resignation and irony to be a lifestyle.

Rather than ask why I would do such a thing, you should rather ask yourself if you remain capable of doing such a thing. I think it is fair to say you are not - you stopped being that kind of person a long time ago and essentially just sit around waiting to die at this stage. You would have me believe that is a virtue that makes you somehow morally superior to me - I don't think so, buddy. Being sick, resigned and helpless does not imply a person to be good by default.

"Some would posit that harmlessness is sainthood - that the inability to form convictions is itself goodness. It is slave morality to say that I can no longer strike back therefore I choose not to strike back. This is the morality of a worm, that curls up when it is trod upon." - Friedrich Nietszche
