k, so i installed the game, and i played it for like 2 mins normal
i had no problem whatsoever, BUT:
when i played for 2 mins the game just froze, went to my desktop , and then after 30sec or something the game pops up again and i can continue my game, but only for a few seconds, then it just

crashes --- continues --- crashes --- continues --- crashes --- continues --- crashes --- ....

i'm really getting frustrated about this.

256 MB RAM is only enough for a pocket calculator if you run WinXP. Create a permanent swap file. Size: Min=Max=1500 MB.

Not likely. Windows XP is the best Windows OS you can get right now.

Anyway, did you actually reboot your machine after changing the swap file settings? That is required, I beleive.

Also, you've prob. heard this a million times, but make sure you have latest video card drivers, etc.

Once you have verified this, COLD BOOT your machine. Actually turn it off and turn it back on again. And then try out Gothic 2 again. Also, make sure you don't have any other programs running in the backgroud such as virus scanners, Instant messaging, etc...

My guess - something other than the game is causing it. Your specs are fine, and while WinME has lower memory requirements you've proved that wouldn't help anyway. Maybe you've got something updating the desktop and requesting focus all the time? Or some hardware that WinXP keeps polling for status info?

Make sure you don't have anything running (aside from the game) that could be causing this. Hold down CTRL+SHIFT and tap ESCAPE - this launches the Task Manager. Take a look through the "Applications" and "Processes" lists for anything suspicious, or anything that shouldn't be running.

Turn off Active Desktop if possible (can you do that with WinXP, or is it too "integrated" to disable?)

Unplug any USB devices like external CD-RWs, digital cameras or scanners.

Give those a try. If it still happens, open the task manager and watch it when you get pushed to the desktop - sort the processes menu by CPU time and see what's working hardest during that time.

well, i did what you said, and i have an even bigger problem,

Svchost.exe is causing al the trouble, so i stopped it, then my pc crashed, then i ran a deep scan with norton antivirus2004 and my svchost is infected with some sort of W32 virus, and norton can't quarantain it or delete it , i tried adaware also, i cleaned up the whole system, but i can't get the virus away, i think i'm gonna do a little format ,

btw, has anyone got a link for gothic2 version 1.32 english patch?
i have 1.31 english
