Will new cd for game mess up current saves?

My copy of HotU got a beating from the shortpeople here. It still works but I worry about down the line now. If I buy a new copy will that mess up the characters, mods, and online current mods I have saved and may be playing at the time?
I tried the Vault but didn't really have time to find an answer. I hope some of the pro players here might know what I can expect to happen.

Thanks in advance.

Nothing will happen.

The CD is read only and only stores the data required to install/play the game. Anything that has changed since the game is installed will be stored on your Hard Drive.

Therefore if you dont uninstall the game everything will be the same.

I doubt it. Back-up your saves and such if you're worried though.

Thanks for the answers. I always run backup every few weeks. When I get the new cd I will do that just in case. I didn't think it should matter but you just never know if you don't ask.
