Well I can tell you this.... I have a kick butt system. KT266A motherboard, AMD XP 1800 and 512 DDR PC2100 a Radeon 8500 running Windows XP and I expirience this problem frequently. I does seem to happen more often when there are more enemies on the screen. But comon, I mean how much better of a system do you need than the one I have?

It's not about your system specs.
i have an Athlon XP 1900+ with 1024 mb DDR-ram and a geforce 2 gts. And this happens for me as well.. it's simply the program and it's scripts that gets screwed up, and closing Gothic or whatever it does.

When yit comes to computers, nothing is perfect.. not even Gothic

No, not really.. if you try to run Space Quest 6 on SD or RD RAM you will soon discover several errors in the game making it crash. I run Gothic with no problems, except when it crashes. The loading time is short and so on..

I found one of the problems, however, and it was a virus making several programs crash at once(even msn and kazaa went down). I have the latest Norton Antivirus, but it says it is unable to remove the virus.. is Panda better? Anybody got a suggestion?

Well it ran fine on my old PII 350. It never crashed. Though it would lag at times. Now with my PIII 800 it runs like a dream. Examine the various components of your machine. There are known problems with some of the listed components mentioned: Motherboards, video cards.

I am not sure what motherboard I have, but I have a Geforce 2 card so that shouldn't be a problem.

It may be other programs, and/or viruses causing the crashing.

Norton AV is one of the best in the business...(AVP is the ones most recommended though...or was when I last was following the AV scene)
Still there's no such thing as a one prog. do it all,so you might have better luck with another AV prog.
DL a free trial of Panda and so on and see if it can clean the box for you.
If you have problems, maybe Fprot for DOS can help you out,it's free and very powerful...
I would guess that Norton can kill it too as long as you use a clean bootdisk.(unless it's a bootsector virus, which I doubt)
It may even be able to take care of it if you go into safe mode.(press F8 just before the win logo appears and choose fail safe mode)
Otherwise go to a friend and create a clean bootdisc if you don't have one yourself.

Safemode.. hmm, never thought of that - in safemode it doesn't even start the program where the virus is(even if it is a virus attacking windows' exe files).

Good idea, I think I'll try that, thanks!

I have a 1.5 ghz w/gforce 2 and 512 mb ram and it always crashes on me when I'm going to the sect for the first time and encounter the flying bugs, it crashes when ever they get close whether I'm attacking or running once the bug gets close the other bug crashes it. I really like this game but all the crashes are wearing thin on my patience.
