Ok....why do the crpgs with good graphics have to have huge spiders that jump out at me when I'm playing the game in the middle of night? It makes me jump ten feet. Bah...so annoying.

......I don't see how people get scared by games. Oh well, if a spider from the game scares you then turn it off.

I have a similar problem particually with First person perspective games (I always play in 3rd person if I can) but if you think RPG's are bad try Alien vs Predetor. OMG that game was so scary - I played a demo as the Predetor and walked about 5 feet and had to quit - it wasn't what happened it was more what I thought was gonna happen - games may be scary but nothing beats the paranoia found in a human mind

my dad bought The Thirteenth Hour as one of those "let's work together" games for my sister and i. a little ways through the game, he realized that this game was way to creepy/gorey for us, so he proceeded on his own. in about two days he beat the game, mostly during twilight hours. i asked him how it was going one time, and he said "i'm getting nightmares. i had turned up the sound all the way and this sinister voice was talking to me. it was like 5 AM and i had all the lights turned off. i was nearly in a cold sweat!" the look on his face was fairly reminiscient of this:

The scariest game for me was definately System Shock 2. I simply could not continue playing it because it scared me so bad, day or night, it didn't matter what time of day. I really wanted to play it through but every time I'd try, my nerves would get so frazzled that I'd be useless. Ahh well.

Hexan used to scare the hell out of me. All of the ambient sound effects seemed so real. I'd usually play at night with the lights off, and after an hour or two I'd get so paranoid that I'd have to stop.

scary games!!

Hi everybody,

just to say that i agree with Kendrik. If you think some RPGs would get you scared, or thought that you should never be scare because it's just a games (not real) as Gomez said, try FPS games especially Alien Vs Predator 2. Now let me say this; i'm not a person that easily get frighten, probably watch too much Horror movies and have seen all kinds monsters and various scary scene & unspeakable stuff (oh this is embarrasing ), but there is one time i really get terrified during particular late night Aliens Vs Predator 2 gaming session. O.k this is the game scenario;

i was trying get back to evacuation point after turn on backup power generators inside underground basement. After i flip on the power, my few partners (waiting outside) said there are something strange on radar and said something "i got bad feelling about this" and ask me be quick on the way out. I was walking alone inside a long, dark corridor, with some junctions. There seem to be on and off alarm signals on my mini radar but mostly false alarm. Anyway i quicken my paced but still keep myself attentive and be prepare for any things jump out from some empty abandoned rooms beside the corridor - i even pay attention to noise make by steam puffing out from broken pipes. And you know what, jeez!, i'm still doing it all wrong!! - the maintainance door on the corridor's ceiling (above my head) suddenly opened and something drop on me!!!.Oh!? Ohhh Goddd!!! On that point i'm jolting & heavily pressing my left mouse button and shaking it wildly so my in-game character also shooting wildly in all direction. And then quickly i realized!, it's nothing!!, nothing!! it's just damned wire & cable dangling out from that damned maintainance door!!. But wait, i realized something else, my weapon's ammunition almost run out!, Oh darn i should have use short-burst mode!. I panicked, i still got half way to go before i get out from this damned place. I quicken further my pace but before few steps away - JEEZ!! i heard multiple Aliens chilling's shrieking voices down the corridor behind me!!. Hell! show just started and i'm low of bullets, darn!. i scamper frantically until i see the exit door and then out and then run and run, until among the abandoned building and still heard multiple Aliens shrieking behind chasing as fast as they can to put their dirty claw on me!. Then thanks God!! i saw my partners at rally point with armored transport waiting and shout at me to be quicker!. I at once feel more secure, and to get rid of the humiliation these Alliens gave me i turn around to finsih off my remaining bullets and see how tough are their! . And Oops!? OMG!! to my suprise there are dozen of Aliens in frenzied state approaching me real fast, some even jump onto building wall to by pass other to get me!!. Arghh!!, i forgo any dignity after shooting wildly again in all direction and just jump into armored transport to get me outta here!!! .

phew!, that's my most scary gaming experience, although so far haven't play any RPGs that get me as scare as above. One thing that i'm sure if a games have realistic graphic, sound and atmosphere, then i'm sure it would get you spooked even it's just games, not real. If not, probably you watched more Horror movies than i did!!.

Hm, AvP made me laugh far more than it made me tremble... it was so sweet to be an Alien. The human campaign was entertaining, but scary? I don't know. The only game that really got me scared was Thief (1 and 2, respectively)... now those games made me jump in my seat and spill my drinks. Sitting in a dark corner, hoping that the huge, metal Child of Karras would stomp on in peace instead of blowing you to bits... oh my.

Alien vs Predator can be kind of scary for new players. That game gave me a pretty scary experience the first time when I try its demo. I couldn't imagine that the aliens would be so creepy. And I was so scared that I actually prevented myself from playing it for a whole week. Well, when I replay it over after finishing the first time, I don't feel scared anymore.

AvP was kind of scary, that's true, though I haven't played it thoroughly. Anyway, I have to say that System Shock 2 is one of the scaries game I've ever played. You're alone on a 'dead' ship, your senses are playing tricks on you and the whole setting is so creepy.. *shudder*

You have to play the game on the easy setting or maybe normal, but not hard because then the creepiness is gone because of too many monsters.

Meow...

Ok, I'm probably the only one who got scared from Gothic, but I still have to tell about it. It was one of my first times playing it and I was just amazed at how good the game looked. So I was wandering around randomly, the sun was shining and I was walking along a riverbed near a forest. Then I spot a shining toadstool (or something) a few feet into the woods and go to pick it up when suddenly all I hear is RRRROOOOOAAAARRRR!!! and this grey.. thing jumps up on my back and starts biting me and there's blood everywhere and I run into the river to get away but it can swim and in my panic I accidently dive and float away downstreams and the thing looses track of me. Afterwards I realized it was just a wolf that had snuck up on me and attacked me from behind, but DAMN that was a shock. Worst I've gotten from a game so far.

It was those darn snappers/razors that always got me. In almost every game i've every played if creatures are following you and you jump up somewhere they can't get to they just stand there or mull around. But thoses snappers are smart. There where three of them, two stayed there are kept my attention while one of them ran away. At the time I thought that one was just scared, but as I was picking off the two that stayed with my crossbow, the other was coming up behind me. He ran halfway around a mountain just to come up behind me! And I didn't know it until I heard his growl.
So watch out for those snappers they'll get you. There's one behind you right now!
