Buy some raw steel. Dip it into the fire for a second then dip it again and again. Then repeat for the other processes. You end up with more swords for your steel. Or does one piece of steel always make 5 + swords? |

Yes, itīs a bug.
Just like the draw-your-sword-bug there is simply no need to exploit it. You have lots of legal, ehm, illegal,..ehem, intended  options to make some ore. |

This is not a bug. You simply had a stack of 5. If you had a stack of 20, you could dip it in 20 times, turning all 20 into the next stage in the smithing process. If you wanted to make 20 Crude Swords, and if you have the materials, you could smash it 20 times with the hammer, then you could dip it 20 times into the water, and finally, grind it 20 times with the grinder. You would end up with 2 crude swords. |

It is a bug... I noticed the same thing. Mud kept interrupting me and I ended up with 3 crude sword and 4 bars of metal left over. Is there any specific duration that you need to spend at each station?

I just held the action key and tapped forward as fast as I could on each stage until my character did nothing. The speed at which you do it determins the amount of swords. I once got 27 swords and a dozen blades from 5 bars just by tapping mental. |
