help in DS2 act 1

I killed the Hydra and smashed the big red crystal but I simply cant go through the game to Amanlu... The gate is activated but the character doesnt go through it...
What should I do to make him go through??

You must go back and speak with Captain Dathry first, after which (barring some huge showstopping error) you will be able to enter the portal.
