sub menu In gothic cause my pc to hang

I finally Got a copy of Gothic and I soon relaised I needed a new video card, so I went and purchased a power color radeon 9600 xt, I have a AMD Athlon 2000 (1.66ghz) with a KT4V MSi mainboard, 256 mb DDR ram 400hz.

The problem, well the game generally runs fine, but when ever I go into a sub-menu: hit esc(main menu), character stats or journel/quest log.
In a very short time the game will hang, not only this but I lose all save games, the monitor goes blank and eventully powers down, untill my pc finally decide's to reset,

any one got any Ideas, I completley dumb struck,
also I've read about the patch for radeon cards but only refers to gerforce 2 and 3 cards, should I try it. In another thread I read that a low power supply may cause the machine to crash, I only have a simple 300 whatt power supply, but hay I can play games like far cry with out any problems,
any help appriated, thanks M alik

Hey there Malik,

Welcome to the forums, sorry about the slow response.

It's important to know which opperating system you are using, win/xp?
I am assuming that you took out the old vid'/card and put in the new one, then what did you do, was your old card a Ati' did you leave the old drivers in,
because usually all traces of the old driver MUST be removed, if you have win/xp you must "roll back" to the generic driver for your new vid'/card,

If and when you are sure your vid/ drivers are the latest and working o.k then maybe try to re-install Gothic but when you get to the install menu, choose repair to correct any bad file problem.
