It's the same in a different setting, but it isn't 'just' hack & slash, the gothic games are the most realistisch RPG's I've ever played. Gothic 2 is more of the same gameplay and I'm happy because it's more of the same.

There arent so many diffrences in how the game is designed,
but when it comes to story and gameplay G1 is much better!

I think the Mage story is better than the G1. And of course the world is more realistic, so the feeling is much better and different.

Gotta disagree with Rydjord. One thing Gothic has in most players eyes is that it was their first experience in world of Gothic, but I actually think that Gothic 2 is the better game overall.

Gothic 2 was definetely better. k Gothic had the wauw effect because it was new, but the story of Gothic 2 goes way deeper, the differences between each class is bigger and the choice of an guild has much more consequences. Also it wasn't that easy to break up a group of creatures as in G1. It is defenitely NOT A HACK-AND-SLASH.
