Did any one else have a tough time figuring this one out? I seemed to spend a ton of time before I figured out the correct approach. Even then, I tried it only as a desperation move *grin* My thinking went something like, "The stupid chest is ignoring a pile of over a dozen gems in the middle of the room ... letting the rats eat the dozen piles doesn't help ... waiting for the dumb thing to circle the room twice doesn't help ... I can not find any way to disable the gem throwers ... so what else is there .. I should just give up on this dumb puzzle ... no ... one more try ... lets go watch the dumb chest ... hmmm it slides along the ground sometimes to get at a near by gem pile ... hey ... could it be? ... nah that'd be too ummm realistic (?) ... "

Yep that was it. A simple trail of gem piles. D'oh.

Trail of breadcrumbs. It took me a second or two to figure out, yep. I figured I'd put one pile at the closest rope/pole and then one in the center of the circle. Nope. Ate the first pile wouldn't eat the second. So I put a trail down. Turned my attention to scanning around the room following the Mimic's trail. Turned back around and a very fat and happy rat was lounging about... no gems in sight.

Splattered rat, put trail back down just in time.

Pulled lever with sadistic glee and maniacal laughter (what can you expect from two chaotic evil blackguards?).
