Corrupt savegame?

Hi,

I've been having some lockups running Direct3d programs for a while, so I've gotten into the habit of saving Gothic every five minutes so that the inevitable freeze that comes every hour or so won't destroy too much of my work. Unfortunatly I also stopped making regular, "intelligent" saves because of this, so my previous two to three hours of gameplay are all stored in a single file, which now appears to be corrupt. The loading screen progresses to its final "notch" (you'll know what I've been if you've watched it load your game a lot), and just stops there. My hdd light blinks every five seconds or so, music continues (tracks changing and everything), but my computer does not respond at all. I've been running 1.08k since I started the game and I've lost a good deal of work (progress from getting the list from Ian up to the minecrawler queen quest). Is there anything at all I can try to restore my progress? Alternitive settings, corrupt savegame fixers... anything?

Thanks for your time ...
