Gothic to be re-released in English |
|
World of Gothic is reporting a new international English release of the original Gothic is expected soon:
While answering fan questions for the much anticipated Gothic 3, Michael Rüve, CEO of Piranha Bytes, recently revealed plans for a new edition of the still very popular Gothic 1 classic. This multilingual international edition (English/German) is already in the making and due for publication later this month. Stay tuned and check their webshop for new entries.
|

Excellent. I may be reading into it too much, but this tells me they might already know they have something really, really good with Gothic 3 and want to be ready by having Gothic 1 available to new fans of the series. In any case, that's good news. |

I started playing this the other day - I bought it used after finishing Gothic 2 last year. The graphics are certainly dated and the animations on movement seem a bit clunkier or feel clunkier compared to Gothic 2 - but I'm glad I have it and I'm looking forward to diving in.
I've got to say though - any RPG fan who hasnt played Gothic 2 is seriously missing out on something special. I havent tried the harder "Gold" release with Night of the Raven yet, but I was in awe of Gothic 2. And yes I like Morrowind too so lets not start that war here... _________________ "For Innos!" |

Awesome. A great game which I almost liked better than the sequel. I hope they add some new lines for all the female NPCs though. The single poorly-recorded, poorly-voiced line they all utter in the version I have is really out-of-place.
Oh... hope they leave the bikini hack in there though. (That was Gothic I right?) _________________ For each toon kills the mob he 'groes, yet each toon does not die. |

Direct link.
The game is in stock for 9.99 EUR plus p&p. The shop ships worldwide.
It´s a DVD in a DVD case with German & English versions and a pdf manual. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

This is a good marketing move as there is still a demand for the game - many gamers played G2 first only to find about G1 later but could not obtain a copy.
The dvd format has become the norm now and will easily accommodate the various multi-language files.
I also think the price is just about right, there were many pirate versions floating on web-auction sites and while people were paying fairly steep prices, many of the copies had files missing/corrupted etc' and were pretty useless it seems, but at this price copying becomes pointless.
I heard some-one had paid £50 for a used scatched copy several weeks back - i bet he's pulling his hair out now! _________________ Forever aches my wretched soul, for Chromanin locked in that dark hole, though crypted key i've yet to learn, he knows one day i will return. |

The other great thing about Gothic 1 was that it required no CD. It was pretty neat to be able to go into the game well after I finished it just to take a look around and see some things.
One of the interesting things I learned well after I finished was that I had never turned the graphics up and played with very blocky graphics. Since I started with G2, I just assumed that was the way things were. About a year later I was going in playing around and discovered I could have upped the graphics appreciably to a very nice level.
OH, Well, the game was still a blast to play. |

I think not. I think you can choose between full english (voices and dialogs) or full german. I can't be sure of course, since I don't have it in my hands.

It probably comes patced and all. Don't know if they have made some new patches, probably not. They have been working on G3 very hard, I don't think patching G1 has high priority. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

although i do ahave a quick question .. is this a reprint of the good old gothic or have they taken the time to sit down and put a few extras in there or maybe tied up a few loose ends like the bandit camp and so on? _________________ Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtsy,

It's a reprint of the original Gothic game. There's no new content. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."
