Is patch necessary?

Hello,

I was going to start playing Gothic for the first time. I have an original boxed version of the game so I am pretty sure I have version 1.0. I see there is a 1.08 patch. Is it advisable to patch the game? The patch description just states it deals with Win98 issues primarily and older video cards.

Thanks!

If you have gothic version 1.08j or 1.08k then they are already patched, nothing more is needed - mine is four years old ver 1.08j and still plays perfect straight out of the box. Enjoy the game be sure to post if you have problems

Install the following files:

-patch 1.08k
-mod player kit 1.08k
-FPS patch
-InExtremo patch

Then learn to use the console to enhance the visuals.

This makes the game more fluid and more beautiful.

Download JemyM´s FAQ as a reference for the controls. You can use the original manual to make a nice fire in the garden.

Thank you. Where can I find the files you mentioned? Are the mods and patches you mention safe to install? (i.e. they will not cause instability and/or problems in the game?). Is there a FAQ on what the above do?

I bought the game when it was brand new and never got around to playing it so I am not sure if I have 1.08k or not.

Welcome to the forums!

If you have the English version, it is already patched and doesn't need anything else. Following Goraths' advice will lead to a tad better visual experience I suppose, but nothing important. Personally I never bother downloading any mods, I just install it and play.

The FPS patch triples the frame rate.

Ok, I have found three of the four patches you mentioned...what about the InExtremo patch? I read through the groups and someone mentioned that you must receive it via email. If you have it and can send it to me that would be great!

Thanks!
