Ok starting off I have a 1.5ghz computer geforce 2 graphics card, 256 ram, all the latest drivers for bot my graphics and sound card. When I try to start a new game I get to the intro part where the guy says to get up and then the screen goes black and nothing happens, Ive waited awhile for something to happen but nothing. I just got the game and Im really anxious to play

Some more ideas:
-make sure these options are enabled in your nvidia driver:
Enable Fog Table Emulation
Adjust Z-buffer depth

-edit the gothic.ini and disable sound, music and fog. If it works reenable them one at a time.

-create a fixed swap file, size 2GB.

-if you are using Asus o/c tools then uninstall them.

Okay, then ignore the swapfile and the Asus part for now.

When do you get the blackscreen? Right after the intro where you are beaten up, when Diego tells you to get up?
This triggers a dialog. You should hear voices if you press cursor up/down a few times and then enter.

In this case open the gothic.ini with an editor (for example Wordpad) and set zFogDisable=1.
Maybe this is enough to fix it.

Did you try the manipulation of the gothic.ini?
