Sword or Rune?

My friend recently beat Gothic. He went through as a mage character, mostly concentrating on magic. However, when he got the choice of the rune or the sword of Uriziel, he chose the sword (he promptly used any skill points he had to become a master of two-handed weapons). He says it was much easier with the sword than the rune (which he also tried). I am currently going through as a mage character, and having never finished Gothic before, I need some advice: sword or rune?

As a mage- Rune
As a fighter- Sword
As a Warriormage- It doesnt matter, They are both great!

(When i say a warriormage i mean a mage with circle 6, Max Mana, over 60 Str and at least Traind in 1H Or 2H... I was a Wrriormage, I used the rune...)

The rune has more magic damage I think 120 mg dam amd the sword has 110 mg dam .The rune has more groovy seen/heard results but the sword its the quick way to kill enemies and you dont have to fill your mana bar everytime you use it ....so I vote for sword.
Also at this point of the game your character is alredy a fighter/mage cause you need the 6th circle of magic to have Uriziel's power in a rune and your character's stats such as strenght and dexterity are high enought to consider him as a fighter.BUT the rune effects was realy cool

Hey there MageofFire.

I must agree it was crazy, but when cheating/experimenting these things must be tried out, Myself (pc-hero) & Mud would swap weapons at random,
to watch mud as a 2H master with uriziel charged was an education. It could not be equalled by pc-hero as it was computer sequence controlled, I tried it with pc-hero and the rune but Mud was much better each & every time.

Highly recommended.

I choose the rune, It's very useful at the end of the temple, when all mad novices come after you just cast 3 or 4 waves and they are dead, Make sure you have all novices chasing you, or else it will just bge a waste of mana.

Casting with the Rune of Uriziel can be interrupted, and in fact usually is, since it takes it's time. This is too much frustrating for my taste, so I vote for the sword.
