Texture detail adjustment has no effect!!!

I just bought a Fragbox by Falcon Northwest(2.6 p4, 1 gig of ram, Geforce FX 5600 ultra). Gothic installs and runs smoothly but i noticed that the textures look kind of muddy even with the detail slider adjustment on the highest setting. I decided to experiment by moving the adjustment to minimum and then moving it in increments to see how it improved. After the slider reaches about a third of the way up, it no longer has an effect and i am stuck with crappy, muddy textures. -any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Download RivaTuner from http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/

Open and move to the second or third tab. You want to find "mipmap LOD bias." Set it to at least -1.5, try going farther but in general past that you get sparkling textures.

I think all cards have some extra adjustments hidden somwhere. My card, for once, can behave in such a way if I set the Dircect3D performance to full, rather than quality. The graphics is then blury indeed...
