Currently listening to: Right Where It belongs- NIN
Lyrics:
See the animal in it's cage that you built
Are you sure what side you're on
Better not look him too closely in the eye
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on
See the safety of the life you have built
Everything where it belongs
Feel the hollowness inside of your heart
And it's all
Right where it belongs
[Chorus:]
What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems
What if all the world you think you know
Is an elaborate dream
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you wanted to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afraid to see?
What if all the world's inside of your head
Just creations of your own
Your devils and your gods
All the living and the dead
And you really are alone
You can live in this illusion
You can choose to believe
You keep looking but you can't find the woods
Are you hiding in the dreams?
[Chorus:]
What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems
What if all the world you used to know
Is an elaborate dream
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you wanted to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afraid to see? |

My Dying Bride - the Dreadful Hours
Opening with the fitting sound of thunder beckoning the coming storm, this cd is just gloomily beautiful.
Got this for xmas from a friend, and I can say that it's pretty good. That is, if you like doom metal, because this thing is pure 100% doom. Unlike Cathedral and Candlemass that are technically doom in their own right, but oftentimes turn more into fuzzy, good-natured, Sabbathy "stoner rock" than anything. This is doom as it's meant to be- slow and grinding, absolutely negative, mean, and painful.
Have a nice day!

your link didnt work, looks like the Autumn site is down or somthing, I cant even pull up the main site.
Anyway, I went where i always go to try out music (Amazon) and scoped it out-
Hating Tree page at Amazon
My determination is that yes, "Hating Tree" by Autumn doesnt sound bad at all. Good call
Well, lets see here, what could I put up...
Alright, you forced me to pull out the secret weapon in my arsenal. This band "Human Drama". and especially this cd, could turn GWAR into a bunch of coffee-sipping bohemians, chilling out to some poetry.
In all seriousness tho, this is a truly great (albeit generally unknown), pretty emotional cd, yet it's not some whining emo either. I dont know quite to to explain it, it's just a great "drama rock" type cd.

Human Drama - The World Inside
Hmmm. Link works fine for me right now. It should dump you directly into whatever you use to play MP3's. I try to get high-sample-rate clips like that when I can find them. Amazon is great for having clips for everything under the sun (All-Music Guide is often even better), but 30 seconds of home-built-crystal-diode-radio-caliber sound often makes it difficult to judge.
Human Drama sounds downright medieval. If that's a style you like, you ought to drag some recs out of Jaz. She's got a fistful of bands that play tunes like that.
OK, since you've taken a step into goth, let's see if this will fly. Try "Wings of Steel" from Collide _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

My Dying Bride - Black Heart Romance
I think I'm in love! The problem is, she's about to croak!
This band is great!
@DT - "Collide" -I didnt like it, nor did I really dislike it. It's just too ambient-electronic for me. If it was a little bit more industrial and less atmospheric, we could talk, but as is I just cant see myself doing anything but background music with it.
@Val - HIM is pretty hit-and-miss. Who? Him! Who? HIM!
"Razorblade Romance" is a great flowing cd, and just the right mix of drama and sort of a euro-corny darkness bit, but it all comes together nicely in the end. Its a very looong cd as well. A great metal-re-envisioning of Chris Isaaks "Wicked Game" on this one that comes off quite well. I didnt want to like HIM, but HE really grew on me after a few listens. Suprisingly, i hated the next one I got (Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights) with a passion. No pun intended. It just sucks compared to Razorblade Romance on almost every level. _________________ “Then away out in the woods I heard that kind of a sound that a ghost makes when it wants to tell about something that's on its mind and can't make itself understood, and so can't rest easy in its grave, and has to go about that way every night grieving.”-Mark Twain |

Thanks for the suggestions, Sammy. I'll check out Razorblade Romance next.
Ultima 5: Lazarus soundtrack - Character Creation
The music for this game is so beautiful. It's like stepping into Britannia all over again. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Xorcist - Governet
"anything I say.... what a wonderful philosophy you have"
This is a cool sample-heavy song based on John Carpenters "They Live". Basically, aliens are everywhere, and only one man can see the "greys" as they are called, when he puts on a pair of special shades. Behind all the common political slogans are actually huge messages of things like "SUBMIT" and the like, keeping their human prey sedated. Samples of the movie play thru it, telling the story as it unfolds. Towards the end, one of the greys realises he can see them, and her eerie "ive got one that can see me.." quote is at the end of the song wrapping it up.
I love the chorus when he finally "wakes up"
"My mind awake
My body whole
I consciously break from this hold
I no longer will live this lie
I will fight back
The greys must die"
GoverNet lyrics
Xorcist Tunes Download - full cds down at the bottom
Xorcist put alot of their music up for free download. They pretty much started out with "Damned Souls" as a very sample-heavy gothic industrial type of electronic music.. As time went on however, they changed up a bit and became more thematic and focused in their approach, alot of their songs approaching downright film scoring. They also headed down a bit of a science-fiction path as well at this point, as GoverNet shows on "Soul Reflection". Then the final stage, and one that I personally am lukewarm towards, is their sort of ambient phase to present on "Nomad".
Their songs typically start out fairly simple, and they just start stacking on layer upon layer, then roughly a minute from the end they really slam you hard. The absolutely brutal near-end sample-fest of screams and clangs and what not in the song Safuna at roughly the 5:20 mark is a great example of this. Theyre samples from "Alucarda" and the "Nuns of Saint Archangelo".
A great and unexpectedly powerful sample is one from an episode of Babylon5, used in Anima off Soul Reflection.
"There is a greater darkness than the one we fight.
It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way.
The war we fight is not against powers and principalities
– it is against chaos and despair.
Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams.
Against this peril we can never surrender.
The future is all around us, waiting in moments of transition,
to be born in moments of revelation.
No one knows the shape of that future, or where it will take us.
We know only that it is always born.. in pain."
great stuff!
Generally, the lyrics arent that great, and the whole lot of it is repetitive as hell, but hey, that's what industrial is. And stay away from the cover tunes they do (Nirvana,Prince), theyre absolutely awful!

Blackmore's Night - Diamonds and Rust
This is not a bad version of Joan Baez's song, actually I think it's quite good, but I still prefer Judas Priest's live version on Unleashed in the East.
If anyone out there likes this song you should also check out Way to Mandalay too. They are both from the same album: Ghost of a Rose. Ritchie really knows how to play the guitar - I love his style. _________________ "There is no way around it. Correct is correct. I am correct, therefore I win."

Great taste in music people....-dies- I LOVE this place! <3
I am listening to Heaven Beside You- Alice In Chains.
Be what you wanna be
See what you came to see
Been what you wanna be
I don't like what I see
Like the coldest winter chill
Heaven beside you ...Hell within
Like the coldest winter chill
Heaven beside you ...Hell within
Like the coldest winter will
Heaven beside you ...Hell within
And you think you have it still, heaven inside you
So there's problems in your life
That's fucked up
And I'm not blind
I'm just see-through faded,
Super jaded,
And out of my mind
Do what you wanna do
Go out and seek your truth
When I'm down and blue
Rather be me than you
Like the coldest winter chill
Heaven beside you ...Hell within
Like the coldest winter chill
Heaven beside you ...Hell within
Like the coldest winter will
Heaven beside you ...Hell within
And you wish you had it still, heaven inside you
So there's problems in your life
That's fucked up
I'm not blind
I'm just see-through faded,
Super jaded,
And out of your mind
Like the coldest winter chill
Heaven beside you ...Hell within
Like the coldest winter chill
Heaven beside you ...Hell within
Like the coldest winter will
Heaven beside you ...Hell within
And you know you have it still, heaven inside you
So there's problems in your life
That's fucked up
But you're not blind
You're just see-through faded,
Overrated,
And out of your mind |
