Morning's Wrath (Indie Game released) |
|
I ran across mention of this release while perusing Gamedev.net. It's billed as an Adventure RPG fusion.
I'm not currently at a location where I'm able to download the Demo. I'm wondering if anyone has had the opportunity to take a look yet? If so would you mind posting a bit about it along with your opinions.
Direct Link to Morning Wrath site (Demo is here):

You can read the Gamedev.net thread here (scroll down a bit to see the release notice):

Hi,
My name is David Rodriguez and I'm the Marketing Director for Ethereal Darkness Interactive Games developer of Morning's Wrath.
To sum up what this game is about you can read below:
Ethereal Darkness Interactive Games, a Northampton, Massachusetts based independent game developer, has released their first commercial game to the public. The game, called Morning's Wrath, took the team of six developers nearly two years to complete.
Morning's Wrath is a return to games supported by a strong storyline and intellectually stimulating game play. Players guide the main character, Princess Morning, through a series of locales containing tasks that require the completion of puzzles and the use of 24 magic runes to create countless spells in facing a host of enemies.
A free download of the demo, desktop wallpaper, character profiles, and more are available on the Morning's Wrath website at http://www.morningswrath.com.
The game is also available for sale in electronic download version for $19.95 and $29.95 in CD format.
The EDI Games team is now busy working on their next game, which is targeted for early 2007.

Our thanks to you, David, from AdventureDot.
I've had the demo for some little time now, haven't had all that much chance to play it. However, your posting cleared up just enough information that I've decided to make an announcement over on AdventureDot re Morning's Wrath.
Please keep us informed re your newest game (if it is either an RPG or an adventure title, that is:-) _________________ Memories that forgotten, cannot be... |

15 minutes with Morning's Wrath:
Here's a first impressions. I have a 1.5 ghz Intel with a gig of ram and a Geforce 4 MX400 video card. The very first thing that jumps out at me is that the game moves very slowly even though the graphics look about 10 years old.
To call it unoptimized would be very polite. The very first scene is with the princess talking to her maid. If you don't hit the spacebar to move the scene along, each sentence stays on screen for 10 seconds or more. The whole 15 minutes is punctuated by slowly moving around and slowly talking. There are zero choices in conversation, you just click through the story, moving the princess to the next character that needs talking to. After doing this for 12 mintues or so you learn something and move to a scene where a huge battle takes place. The princess has no weapons or armor and she will die in about 5 hits. The only option seems to be to run back to the city gates where the game abruptly dropped to desktop. I actually had the patience to try this 3 times before uninstalling the game.
Did that sound negative? If so, good! I made my point. _________________ 'nut |

Thanks for the comments!
Kristophe - Thank you for putting MW onto your website. I will do my best to keep this RPGDot informed.
crpgnut - Yeah this game is not for everyone. Things move slowly to build a strong story and enrich the player in the environment.
We are actually going to give the player dialouge options in our next project. _________________ ---------------------

Nothing wrong with your game as long as it's billed an adventurer game. There's just not enough there to call it an rpg in any way. If you do decide to make a move into the much larger genre, I'll look at that game. _________________ 'nut |

Now our next game is tentively titled Project 2. It's a full-fledged adventure game, but we do have a major question:
Which would make you want to buy this game more, having 3D graphics or a 2D animated style? _________________ ---------------------
