IGN is the first site to Pixel Studios' <a href="http://pc.ign.com/articles/461/461548p1.html" target="_blank">review</a> Blade & Steel. The article seems a bit rushed in places which might be representative of the author's sentiments: the score is 6/10:<blockquote><em>Beyond being a 2D, sprite-based, isometric clickfest, Blade & Sword also chooses to incorporate the Horadric cube (here referred to as a "Spyragic cube"), town portal stones you can activate along the way, town scrolls, (called "homing portals"), a village with a healer who will refill your mana and health for free (a red meter and blue meter), socketed weapons, 800x600 max resolution, and a rather similar skill point system. In fact, B&S is so much like its predecessor that it plays like a mod rather than something built from the ground up, to a certain extent. However, where it manages to deviate, it does so with decidedly mixed results.</em></blockquote> |

It's hard to take a reviewer seriously if he starts out by calling Anachronox, Asheron's Call, and Neocron "Diablo imitators". It's an OK article aside from that, but sheesh. "No, I liked Morrowind, but it's a little too similar to Planescape: Torment, don't you think?" |

I liked the inclusion of Anachronox which used a turn-based console style of combat and two MMORPGs. That action-RPG genre sure is broad! _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |
