I've just begun to read my first Terry Brooks book called: The Sword of Shannara.
And I must say I like his writing style.
It's may not be Raymond E. Feist (my favorite author) but it's darn good anyway so far!
I'm only in the very beginning of the book but I can already say that I will enjoy it.
Looks like I've found myself a new author to read up on 
Now I'll have to fit in reading again with my gaming  |

You'll be pleased to know then that there are many more books in the Shannara "universe" . They are all of a similar writing style. I believe a special edition of the first Shannara Trilogy was recently released ... you might want to look at getting that . It'll save you some of the cost of buying the first 3 books separately. |

Legend Entertainment did a pretty good graphica/text adventure in 1995 based on that as well, called Sword of Shannara. |

Terry Brooks is a fabulous author. I love every single Shannara novel. His writing style is very conscise yet detailed. His background as a lawyer really helps both his vocabulary, story-direction, and is evident in his flowing texts. Best of all, each story is self-contained while adding to the overall fabric which is Shannara. Elfstones of Shannara is my personal fave!
Oh yea, that graphical adventure by legend entertainment is really cool. I still have that one for my PC.

Too late for that, I've bought the first part already.
But no biggie, it's worth every penny
And I've checked the bookstores here and they don't have the trilogy. At least not in my native language, Dutch. |

Ah well, nevermind. Out of interest ..... how many fantasy novels get translated into Dutch ? Is it a large proportion ...or just the ones that have worldwide/critical acclaim ?
I agree completely with Kengo by the way. Brook's writing style is very fluid. It seems almost simple ..but isn't. Elfstones is also my favourite of the three. |

Well, the popular/well known writers are all translated. Tolkien, Jordan, Feist, Brooks, Hobb, Leguin etc.
But I do see some other, to me, unkown fantasy authors.
Like Trudi Canavan for example. I've bought a book of her called the Black Magicians.
Dunno if it's any good cuz I still have to read it
It wasn't that expensive so I picked it up when I got this Brooks book.
But first I'm gonna enjoy the Shannara trilogy.
That appeals the most the me right now.
I'm eagerly awaiting the translation of Feist's new book: The King of Foxes.
Normally it doesn't take that long for it to come out in Dutch.
If it takes TOO long I might look for the English version though. |
