Is Neverwinter Nights worth buying? |
|
I'm thinking about buying the game and am wondering if it is worth the money and better than anything already on the market such as Morrowind? Let me know what you think of the game! |

That all depends on what type of video card you have. Lower end cards won't work. BioWare thinks everyone should go out and buy a GeForce4 so they can play their game. _________________ His thoughts are whack.

Be fair Gomez. You said you had a 3.5MB videocard. That is ancient and I'd be surprised to find any newer game able to play on it.
In truth any card less than 2 years old should be fine to play the game (Except 3DFX...it's completely not supported since the card maker is defunct). Just make sure it'll play open GL. _________________ Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again.

Your right, maybe I should have waited untill I got home and tried it on my computer to really give it a chance. But I already exchanged it for Jedi Outcast......hehe _________________ His thoughts are whack.

I'm running it on a GF2 32 meg card without problems, and I know a guy who's running it on a 16 meg TNT. 3.5 is barely enough to run some DOS games from the end of the dos era. You have to expect some scaling over a decade.
Still, if you had to exchange it... then Jedi Outcast was a good choice. That game's a blast. Just don't install IT on grandma's system either or you'll be heading back to the store yet again. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

Video cards and is this game good? |
|
My video card is a TNT2 Ultra, dual Celeron 433's, 256mb SDRAM. I can play Medal of Honor with medium looking graphics barely. Setting the game priority in task manager to above normal helps also. I'm upgrading as soon as I find a game that I must have that needs more horse power. My original question stands. Is this game worth buying? |

I think it is. But it's all about opinion. I'm having a blast multiplayer... it really is like sitting down to a tabletop session if you find the right players. Combat is a little on the brutal side at low levels... but that's to be expected. You respawn with minimal (50 x level... at level 20 a thousand experience isn't much... it's more annoying at level 1) losses so the combat can afford to be a little rough.
Singleplayer I haven't gotten into enough combat to ascertain difficulty. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

The simple answer to your question, IDPuterGuy is YES. The game is well worth the money - as long as you like the genre in the first place. _________________ When everything else in life seems to fail you - buy a vowel. |

That surprises me. Running a Quake 3 engine game on a 4 meg card? Oh well. Whatever works. NWN should have run if JK2 runs... happy lightsabering. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

Jedi on a 3.5meg card? Ouch, I feel my chain being yanked Didn't think that was possible...but who am I to doubt
Being as I haven't got into a MP session yet and have put a few hours into the Singleplayer I can honestly say it's quite worth it. But then I am biased...I don't think fudementally Bioware has made a bad RPG. I was worried about how the 3D would translate in the engine and I've been quite pleased...a bit of AI pathing problems, but not enough to get frustrated. _________________ We need a new bard. @EverythingXen: you have to think that "video card" is nothing that a integrated chip on the m/b, so it should be an option to choose how many standard Mb of RAM you want to allocate for video-uses (and regularly some of them are automatically assigned to be used for video requirements...) so "virtually" his video card don't have only 4 Mb but more likely near 32... _________________ =Member of the NonFlamers' Guild=

The problem with integrated video chipsets in general is that they share memory with the processor. This isn't as efficient as the video card having it's own memory. The cheapest GeForce 2 card you can find would be head and shoulders above that Intel chipset that he's running. |

I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode. I think it was called, "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."
