Good to hear. 
Now the inevitable newbie hints for Gothic  .
-Itīs very important to save in different slots. A few people had problems with corrupted savegames.
-Do not enter 'locked areas' unless you have a quest telling you to go there. Some gates/winches work exactly once. (You can solve the winch bug with cheating).
-Donīt waste skillpoints on secondary skills.
-Strength & Dex can only be learned up to 100. After that you need potions.
-Always carry at least one telekinesis scroll after chapter 1.
-Transformation spells are very useful. For combat tactics and travel.

I have to agree... the controls were the hardest part for me... so I use the keyboard... it is simpler. though I haven't even finished chapter one... and I have a question: how do you kill those damned meal bugs? I want to, but I can't figure it out!

Just whack em' silly! Yeah, really! If you're still not getting them then get in closer. If you still can't seem to hit them then change to the pickaxe.
