Suggest me a title that could remind me of Ultima Underworld |
|
Hi guys.
These days I was feeling in need of going again into dungeon crawling...
...so I was wondering what could be the best game to try in search of the same sensations I had when I played Dungeon Master on Amiga or Ultima Underworld on PC.
I tryed months ago Arx but didn't impressed me much.
I'll give it another try, but wanted to hear your suggestions... |

Realms of Arkania serie
Ravenloft serie
Anvil of dawn
Lands of lore serie
Arx is still the closest to Ultima Underworld in play style I know of.
Demise; Rise of the k'hutan
And probably a few more first person (dungeon) crawlers I can't remember right now. _________________ Moderator on RPGdot.com Forum.

Thx guy.
From your reply (Ravenloft) I understand you told me about RPGs without considering just the latest.
That's fine for me,
graphics are not so important.
But was wondering if any recent product has the feeling of the olied I talked about... |

Greetings!
Except for Arx Fatalis I don't know a real dungeon crawl game. However, if you look for a certain sense of ambience, evoking a dark, kind of "realistic" mood, I would recommed
a) Gothic (and the successor). You don't roam through dungeons so much, but the other locations like dark woods, swamps and sloppy mountain passes, make up for it.
b) System Shock 2. One of the scariest games to date. Actually, it's quite close to a dungeon crawl, only that you are confined to the tight chambers and corridors of a spaceship. I think it's available on abandonware sites.. _________________ “Through the sounds of falling rain, through the clouds of bitter times

Some nice dungeons are in
Wizards and Warriors, Wizardry 8, Might & Magic 6 & 7
but the combat is turn based. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild= |

I agree with wizards and warriors. It takes place mostly in 8 dungeons, although there are two overland screens.
It has a party of up to six. I think you might like that one its pretty good. |

Arx Fatalis is the "unofficial" Ultima Underworld 3. I suggest you give it a whirl. Its definetly worth it, especially if you liked the previous underworlds.
Other than that, system shock 1&2 if you "accept" scifi. |

There are some NWN mods based on old games such as EOB. They are doing a remake of UU using a new engine, it might be a NWN mod too, I forget. _________________ If God said it, then that settles it!

There was an old rpg put out by Sierra that was a dungeon crawl....I loved it... it was even multiplayer...last time I heard about it was when Sierra had their own online gaming thing...this was long ago. Wish I could remember the name of it...graphics weren't the best...but it was fun. Kinda reminded me of what you people describe Ultima Underworld as. I really wish I knew what the name of the old game was so I could find it and download it...feh! _________________ "What are you gonna do? Release the dogs?! Or the bees?!
