Fixing stuff and spending skill points?

How do I do either of these? I tried fixing my shield but nothing happened. She bent over in pain and I clicked again and I heard a hammer striking metal and some mana left my bar...but nothing got fixed. Do I need special tools or something?

If you have 1 point in Repair you can recover 60% of the maximum (IIRC). If the item already has more than 60% of it's full points (assuming my figure is correct), then you wouldn't be able to effect a repair - could this be what happened?

You could always add more skill points but in my opinion one is enough. Unlike some other games a lower skill doesn't degrade the item at all.

Spending skill points? I'm not sure I understand. Click the appropriate skill and the little box in the middle will show 1 point. Click OK and it should be allocated.

And if you are talking about where to alocate you skillpoints, then my advice is give one or two skillpoints in several important atributes and choose just few of them and develop them with many skill points.
