To some extent, it depends on what you plan to do with it. Overall, I think the Argon Nova is has the best balance of features.

Argon Nova- moderate speed, good cargo, 75MW shields
Boron Barracuda- good speed, good cargo, 50MW shields
Paranid Perseus- good speed, TINY cargo, best weapons but no ion dis, 75MW shields
Split Mamba- great speed, good cargo, no ion disruptor, 25MW shields
Teladi Falcon- SLOW, big cargo, 75MW shields

Go Nova, nothing else can touch it IMO!! I love it.

dte has it right. For most players, it's a choice between the better-rounded Nova or the fast Barracuda. I use the Nova but I think the Barracuda is a fine ship if you watch the shields and demand the extra speed.

The Pirate Orinocco is actually a pretty decent all-rounder if you don't mind capturing and flying a mobile helmet-ship. And the Paranid Perseus is a station killer but a bit of a specialist PSG ship.

The Nova has a rear turret to shoot down missiles and so it is best. It's that simple.

I love my Nova... I have a Barracuda and it looks cool and is agile... but all too often I hear 'warning... missile closing' and am throughly Horneted or Thorned before I can swing into a position to manually shoot the missile down.

50k shields don't like thorn missiles, or even hornets...

But the Nova is slow. It will take you a whole 5 seconds longer to cross a system on SETA!
