What's the point?

What's the point of trying to play through NWN with a magic-based character? You can use spells to hurt people, but it always seems easier to just go in there and crack some skulls with a fighter or bararian.

It IS easier. But mages have more style.

Style is everything.

And using gratuitous chain lighting spells to open chests is fun and safe.

It's about ROLE PLAYING... not "trying to get through the game as fast as possible"... role-playing evil mages is a ton of fun.

And once you get to the really high levels, its the *mages* who have a shot at becoming Gods, more so than fighters and other mundanes. Not like you can actually do that in a computer game, but point of reference; Raistlin.

amen to that. by the time a wizard hits level 13, just try to get close to him/her! a clever wizard is more trouble than the most stalwart of warrior. hence the saying (from LOTR, i think?), "don't meddle in the affairs of wizards." good advice from what i have seen of NWN.

I now understand. Since I first posted this topic, I have become more familiar with the mage! It is now easier for me to handle them! I now love them!

Unless, of course, you're a monk character with insanely high spell resistance.
