Hey all, I'm a teenage programmer who's just getting started. I was reading through the tutorials for making Mods for Gothic. I'd love to at least play around with it, but that's some pretty hefty software. Does anyone know where I might be able to get it very cheap/free? |

You might want to post this in the gothic threads for a better chance of people in the know seeing it. Unless Val moves this one for you. Welcome to the Dot by the way. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Thanks.
Didn't really seem like it fit in an area, any suggestions? |

I would use the gothic general forum or G2 whichever you are interested in trying. Just gives you more of a chance of getting an answer of some kind.
Just realize, the dot does not allow in any form, piracy, but if there is any freeware out there for this, someone here may know. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Let's go to the Gothic II general forum... it has more visitors than the GI general forum. - Moved. _________________ Jaz |

Hello there MichaelFord, sorry for the delayed reaction.
If you had posted in "gothic general" i may have noticed your request earlier (being an original gothic fan)
(the women here are so un-systematic with their advice) ha!
The good news is, all the files and info you need are "free" and while some files are available here at "gothic" dot, other sites also have a larger set of info/files which are readily downloadable.
1. You will nead the gothic mod development kit, i think you should go for the larger one of the two available. Take a look at the following sites, mostly german but you will be able to "sift" through the various links and downloads..
http://www.worldofgothic.de/
http://wiki.devmode.de/Allgemein/Einleitung
http://www.bendlins.de/nico/
please come back to this thread if you require further help or information, or indeed, how you get on with this.
Good luck with your programming. |

Another Q. (and yes, i know i'm double posting.)
Is 3D Studio Max 3.1 supposed to come with the mod pack? It's mentioned in almost all of the tutorials, but I can't seem to find it. If not, does anyone know where I can download it? |

I'm not so sure if i can help much more,
Programming/code, i havn't a clue, - 3d studio-max you have to purchase yourself, it is expensive, also i could be wrong on this, the different games (G1 G2) are version specific, notice on Nico's site the plug-in for version 6 (G2) while gothic was always 4.2 (gothic) so on 3.1 - - don't know but that is well out of date. I found out the hard way that they are not backward compatible.
If you can speak german? - try the forums at worldofgothic, they will accept english speaking/posters, there is a modification forum,

The ebay copy was probably illegal. Professional software gets upgraded when a new version comes out. The circulating old versions are fed into the shredder to keep the price high. Who would buy the latest Photoshop for insane money when he could get last year´s revision for 100$ ? _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |
