Thats they way of the world. Money talks. If its not going to sell its not going to be made. Even though they are not made, however, does not mean they are not going to see the light of day. I am sure all the major elements that they developed that they liked are going to be reused. Who would go through all that trouble creating what they thought was a wonderful engine, then just throw everything away. With how easy object oriented programming is these days, all the features they created will find their way into some game or other. Just not this one <:

I haven't studied economic theory but I'm sure there is data on this somewhere: as a niche market(which computer games were for years) moves main stream the drive to appeal to a mass audience forces producers to dumbdown and copycat their product. The result: shooters and rts clones(blech). Maybe a downturn in the industry would not be so bad. I'll take one Combat Mission over 50 Emperor of Dune any day. My battlecry is "Fewer games, more gameplay". |

Your point is good, but sadly I don't think publishers care about quality as much as sellability. As long as they can milk cows, they will. And milking the same cow second time costs less than buying a new cow. I presume, knowing nothing about agriculture myself. |

This is not the appropriate forum to discuss cow milking. Perhaps this web site is not what you are looking for... Unless we want to set up an agriculture and farming forum?

Hey I like malts better than milkshakes, but I think a cow milking forum could be a really neat hands-on experience. After all we all get to serious about these games sometimes.(BTW no sign of Arcanum in my neck of the woods--or farm--yet) |

To get back on the topic - we all know now that TORN wasn't cancelled because of low quality, but because Interplay had to axe some project in oder to sell out to Titus. They have chosen titles early in development or those they regarded as "less likely to bring good return on investment".
