I just started playing G2 and noticed a very annoying problem with the volume of NPC's in the background. It really became noticeable in Khronis. I began talking to a guard and I had difficulty hearing him because the preacher in the background was giving a sermon and the parish members were all whispering amongst themselves.
I thought that maybe it was just an exception since preachers usually talk very loud when preaching. But much to my unfortunate surprise, I notice that everywhere in the game (especially in the city), the conversation I'm having with one NPC is almost drowned out by all the jabbering NPC's in a 3 or 4 block radious.
WTF? I even use subtitles and still have to repeat conversations due to the annoying distraction of the other 10 or 15 NPC's in the immediate area.
I've tried to find the controls to adjust this sound issue and have been unsuccessful. This can't possibly be correct. Anyone have this problem and have any recommendations?

Ive had a similar problem with the preacher too.. As for everywhere else, I find that my character is a bit on the loud side when he talks more than anything else.
Im running an Audigy 2 on 6.1 Speaker setup.
