Loving the game! How do I rest?

I've completed a few quests in the first town. The only thing I can't figure out so far is how to rest. I go to the tradehouse and hit 'T' but it tells me that it's illegal and that I need to find a bed. I've talked to everyone there but can find no option to rent a bed. I can pick the locked door and find a bed in the room but it still tells me it's illegal. Please help.

Resting is the only way to get my health back right?

You can go a little out side of town and press "T" but you may get attacked.
Or in the basement of the Building with Socucius Ergalla (guy who aske for your birthsign, Profession and such), anyway there is a bed roll in basement use it.

Go outside of town and press "T", or look for taverns in towns and go upstairs or downstairs to find bedrooms with beds. Target the bed and hit your space bar to open the sleep option menu.
