Bah my bet is that Wolverine_Man works for the devs and is trying to build up interest in the game - and I'm still tempted to give it a go - damn their evil marketing plans

Thanks Kendrick for the translation,

Working for the dev's? - - there does seem like a "connection" of somekind,
but i would guess not, a codewriter of sorts (would find the hidden code)? but how would he have known where to look for the cave/room?

I think wolverine_men is trying to encourage those who believe it "might" be true? - - there is only 3 months left to find the old man and to win the Alienware pc. It's a daunting task if you cannot solve the puzzle (like me)

If the puzzle is not solved by anyone before christmas, then i will give the remainder of the info' that i remember, just to prove that it has been found,
should someone solve the situation later.

I am going to give it one more try (reluctantly) to honour wolverine_men's generous offer.

(Kendrick, i believe there is a wish for you today "somewhere")

@Malgaroth,

I have respect in what you say, people are entitled to their own beliefs, you are quite in order and justified to believe in only what you can see.

Should it be that the riddle is not solved, then thats the way it must be, maybe for all eternity.

I wish you good luck with your playing of the Gothic games series even if you are a non-believer.

I have read this topic copmletely and tried to give some ideas too. I know I never find out because I wont be able to follow the right path . but I still believe He is in there somewhere alive and well. and there was somethign about a mod that included him? maybe they made it easier to find him alive and put a bigger story behind them. I hope someone can solve it all and proof it once and for all to everybody that the stranger is there

I moved on to other games, but I would like to add my thoughts in an effort to solve this riddle. Here's the stuff I tried.

I decided that there was probably a single act to do or avoid doing throughout the game that defined the right path. The stuff I tested included:

1) I learned the sneak skill so I could sneak around the Fog Tower, looking for the door. Only hunters teach this skill, and I thought there might be a connection. Learning it, you are told that sneaking gives you a better view of the floor. I figured it was the kind of skill you might learn the first time you played but never again.

2) I avoided killing anything that could produce skins/teeth/claws, etc. until I learned the skill to take them, thinking that wasting them may be considered an evil path.

3) I was careful to be fair when I dealt with the obvious good vs. evil encounters like Lefty, and I avoided the Sect Camp altogether.

4) I performed all the tasks at night, because of the hint in the early part of the game, advising you to avoid the old structures "especially at night." I did find a switch that only worked at night, leading to a room that contained different things, depending on the part of the game you were in, but that was at the ruins on top of the highest peak, not in the Fog Tower.

None of that made a difference, unfortunately.

Hope that adds some value. Good luck, guys.

Let me say from the outset Squeek, "I salute you"

Until such a time when all may be revealed, you have contributed much as a believer in this hidden quest, and in truth, you have in places gone beyond where i have, your name will be mentioned along with just a handful of others should the day of truth arrive.

I most probably was one of the first gothic players, and am still playing and searching again for the thing that was overlooked by myself.

If i do find anything significant, i will let you know.

The one who was banished knows more than you realise. Coax him into revealing some info. Gothic 3 will shed more light on his treachery. He knows the answer, but can you ask the right question?

dam wolverine_men you and your ridlles
So you mean that "the stranger" will reappear in G3? or do you mean the hero himself with the banished one?
but you talk about treachery? the oe who was there for treachery was Lee. Does he knows more? More of what?

Where?? The place where the book was?
Other thing. I didn't read all of these posts, just too many... So I don't know wether I'm saying a new thing or not. I played G1 several times. The Sleeper was always Resting In Peace, never made anything. Last time I did the Chromanin quest and the Sleeper was awake and shot fireballs at me. Sometimes he hit one of those demons, it was fun. A friend of mine also noticed this, only when he made Chromanin. So is there a connection?
EDIT:
I bet wolverine is speaking about XARDAS. He was banished from his order, and I'm looking forward to learn more about his treachery.
EDIT again:
The whole thing is about Xardas, just see the notes in the books. Begins with righteousness. The first note is about a good man with good (holy?) power. After that he is fighting with something, he sometimes loses his power? ( "A great legacy, i feel great fear to lose all of it again by a slight faltering in word or deed") A "great legacy", it could mean both sides in Xardas' life. Or it could mean he had a legacy as a fire mage, lost it, has an other as black mage, doesn't wanna lost it. He is going to be active ("Gone are the days of wasting and waiting"). Good Xardas probably just sit in the Monastery all day. He's off to learn his new powers.
Of course my little theory doesn't explain everything. I just think that some things match.
