Help with Green Griffon Inn dungeon!

I went to the Green Griffon Inn and learned of the "competition." I entered it (paying 500 gp as an entry fee). I went through the first part of the dungeon until I came to a queen spider. I attacked her, only to find that my weapon (Greatsword +2) does no damage! How did you get past her, and is this dungeon necessary to go through anyway?

Ranged weapons are good at this point. You want to keep that bug's poison attack far, far away from you.

Thanks, Val! I'll try my longbow +1 on her and see what happens.
