That's really cool that you found a game in your drawer! I've never played Darklands, but i've heard it's really cool. Congratulations! _________________ "That which does not kill us makes us stronger."

Yog Sothoth,
Just got off the phone w/ my brother. The Dragon toasted his party as well. There is, however, a trick to defeating it. He can not recall what it was, but a friend of his *did* beat it.
As to main quest...he recalls there was something, but not what. I, too, am too busy for the near future to play it (assuming the old disks still work, a big assumption). But I forsee a few bleak days in the summer when it is rainy out...then what?
I am not sure I can run DS on my current system, and there is NO WAY Morrowind runs, so its back to the oldies. |

There are several ways to defeat the dragon, but the easiest is to find the saint who is most effective against dragons. That was probably my favorite facet of the game, the saints and the character creation. Classic party was a female leader type, who was charismatic, good at hand to hand fighting, and a smooth talker, backed up by a brute smasher guy, an alchemist, and a priest type with lots of saints. I always got sidetracked from the main quest, though- so many side quests, and I was alwasy trying to get a hold of the highes quality philospher's stone and find new saints.
I spent a good two years of my life playing this game, with breaks for FPS occasionally. I oughta try and find my Darklands Gold edition and see if it works in XP. _________________ "It has been a grand journey- well-worth making once."

I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode. I think it was called, "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."

I'd totally forgotten about the saints and philosopher's stone. Very very cool. I *am* going to go home and find the dozens of disks and see if it works. After Jaz's feed back on DS - why try the demo? This game I remember as being tops.
Thanks for unlocking the memory banks. |

What a great game. It's nice to read that people have not completely forgoten this marvelous work. It was fun blowing up the hotel and getting run out of town. I think my reputation was about -60 everywhere in the world. Also a good history lesson about the time period. Great memories. |

And the game had such potential for expansion across Europe. The map was primed to allow new regions. So sad that they never achieved the necessary success to force a sequel/expansion. Can you imagine going into Spain? Or Poland/Lithuania? Or Italy? Makes my webbed toes tingle just thinking about it. _________________ "It has been a grand journey- well-worth making once."

You are all right!
The philosopher stone was very hard to improve (and very expensive too)
and the saints are always the wrong for me (i was always in the midle of a storm! How many winters passed in the wilderness... )
BTW: What is this Darklands Gold? I never heard of it... _________________ =Member of the NonFlamers' Guild=

Webbed toes?
But seriously, you are right, the game had tons of unrealized potential. |

Darklands Gold was a CD-ROM repackaging of the game, with the bonus editor included, and the manual and hint book on the CD-ROM. Of course it didn't run from the CD. I really need to find it. Time to dig through my old game boxes. _________________ "It has been a grand journey- well-worth making once."
