KotOR is everybody´s darling.
Arx Fatalis is very good, although a more individual thing than KotOR.

Darklands is an rt rpg with a much more realistic, detailed and vibrant world than gothic.

VtM: Bloodlines is an action game that is a very good.

Any of the zelda's. The new one looks pretty good but its not out yet.

Super Mario Brothers 2 is a great action rpg.

In SWAT 4 you can switch out weapons, making it an action rpg.

HL2 and Doom 3 let you engage in mellee combat with fists making it an action rpg (and they have super fancy graphics which we all love and know is a requirment for a game to be good).

Silent Hill 4 the room also lets you engage in mellee combat making it a damn fine thriller horror action rpg.

Leisure Suit Larry, Magna Cum Lauda is the shiznit as rpgs go. You play the role of Larry and talk to people trying to get some lovin. You can get slapped by girls which equates to mellee combat.

Parapa the rapper is super duper fun action rpg. But I suggest playing with young girls or else people will think you are fruity.

If he is a big Gothic fan kotor might not do it for him since the combat models are like black and white. Gothic's is very hard and kotor's is redicously easy.

Arx Fatalis's combat isn't that bad. I could handle it and it was a fun game. I actually beat it and I never stay interested in action games long enough to beat them.

Boiling Point: Road to Hell (Xenus) gets released on the 20th and it looks like it will likely have many similarities to gothic except its a shooter and takes place in modern times. It still has the streaming world elements, maybe a little less of an rpg but still looks cool.

[... long list of games ... ]

You fogot to tell us why Tetris and Space Invaders are RPGs.

The topic was about RPGs he can buy now.
Darklands is out of print for a decade. The other games are no RPGs or they are console titles, except Vampire, which is of course one of the games he should consider.

This is the first time I hear it this way. Most people think KotOR is very good while KotOR 2 is a rushed job.

Correct. Gothic is Ultima 9 like it should have been. U9 is hard to get nowadays. With the fan patches it´s a pretty good game. The reviews were too harsh.

I was one of those who liked KotOR II better than the first one, too. No. 2 *was* rushed plus there were several unfinished story threads, but I liked the KotOR II NPCs, the influence system and Obsidian's way of defining alignments a lot better than the corresponding parts in the first KotOR.

I'd still recommend both KotORs. They are current CRPGs and rather good. I'd also recommend Jade Empire (which is nothing like Gothic, either, but I love it). A so-so story (like most RPGs) - but it has great NPCs, wacky humor and wonderful romances. And combat is even easier than in KotOR.

Thx guy's...
I've seen KotOR2... (not the first) im not a big fan of that sort of fighting... I think it's to litle skill needed... just like NwN and so on...
Im gonna trye to get a hold of "Ultima 9"...
VtM: Bloodlines. isnt that a mmorpg? and what dos the VtM stand for?
And by the way... I dont have a X-box.. only PC... so I cant play Jade Empire... (2 bad... that looks GREAT!)
