Dump to desktop - any solutions? |
|
This game dumps me to the desktop FAR more often than any other game I have ever played. I see no pattern whatsoever - it happens when simply moving (not when loading as this game does so very, very often), it happens when in conversation with an npc, when fighting, when picking up items from a corpse - just about any possible time. It does it frequently - some sessions it does it more than others. I have NOTHING running in background, no firewall, no virus, nothing.
If you have any suggestions, I will try anything - this is getting very frustrating. In have a Pentium III 550, 500 meg ram, GeForce III TI, Win XP. _________________ When everything else in life seems to fail you - buy a vowel. |

Have you looked in the event viewer, you have XP...
Look for errors generated in the event viewer with the same time stamp that the error occurs. they might not say the game name just whats crashing... |

Hi.
I was crashing constantly when trying to leave the hull.
After 5 days of failed fixing attempts,I snapped, went out and bought a new Hd and Win xp home full version.(was running win98 1st before)
I plan on keeping this new hard drive clutter free, and use my old one for surfing,e-mail,what have you.
Since I've been using this "gaming only hard drive",only one crash.
Btw, I switch between drives using startup bios, booting which hd accordingly.
Drastic, but effective in my desperation.

Most probably a video driver issue. Try the latest official Detonators from the NVidia site. And tell me your soundcard. _________________ Rendelius

Do you have a SBLive! card? This is a documented problem with these cards (and maybe other sound cards). Try making sure you have the most recent driver for the sound card. Also, try going into dxdiag and stepping down the hardware acceleration for sound, all the way to off if need be.
I had drops, updated my driver and went from max acceleration to standard and haven't had another one, yet... |

Problem solved - thank you |

Yes, I have an SB Live sound card. I turned it down and I haven't had a single drop to desktop in 10 hours of play (crossing fingers). I would say that was the problem. _________________ When everything else in life seems to fail you - buy a vowel. |

I've had plenty drops, and no SB live.
After updating the detonatators (29.20) had some drops, but not nearly as frequent. So as a final hint to all of those that havent updated their detonators: do so now if experiencing problems. They might even help. _________________ - Of all the worlds there must be - why was i born on this one? -
