Quick fix

Hey, about the game freezing after loading a saved game, everyone keeps telling me to get a new graphics card and some more RAM and I wont have this problem anymore. Is this true?

System Specs
PIII-500MhZ
128Mb
Diamond Stealth S3 video card
SoundBlaster sound card
Windows ME

Thanks for the help guys.

I have another theory:
WindowsMe is known to provide you with nothing but trouble,.. I wouldn' t be surprised if the os is responsible for the crash. My warmest recommendation: Switch back to Windows98.

Diamond Stealth S3 video card ..

Which version (2 or 4 MB) of the videocard do you have?

Two things to keep in mind

What PB says about videocards:
- Older chipsets (S3 is implicitly included) are likely to cause troubles
- More texture memory is more important than a high fillrate

Looks like it's high time to honor your Diamond with Grand Funeral .. and go for smthing newer with lots of memory.

I think HWFanatic has a pretty solid point. Although I would personally suggest WinXP.

Thank you!
Anyway, xp is my first choise as well, but it won' t run as smoothly on a system with 128mb, as it would on one with 256mb.. Therefore 98 seems to be only solution.
Also, S3 cards do have a temper of their own, but it wouldn' t show itself in that manner; you' re more likely to experience corrupted/missing textures than system halt.
Oh, RastaBlasta420, please tell us if you happened to have experienced such a problem before(what situation etc.)..

Too true about the memory. XP eats ram for breakfast. And I miss the ctrl+alt+del function in win98 where you could shut down everything except systray and explorer to get a significant performance-boost. In XP all tose processes look so nasty and vital I dare not touch them...

HWFanatiC: u r right about texture problems with S3 chips with little memory - I used to have Dimond Stealth S3 (not the pro version), and it indeed skipped lot's of texturs in Tom Raider, but TR was one of few games I could manage to run on that card, many just won't do..

RastaBlasta420: you did managed to run the game and make a save, didn't you? How was it running?

The game ran perfectly fine the first day I played it. I turned on my computer the next day and it starting freezing 5 seconds into the game.

The video card I have (Diamond Stealth S3) has never had many problems before, I run games like RTCW and Mafia everyday without a problem. This game is the first I experienced problems with.
