Are there any MMORPGs which don't make you pay for the box? |
|
Hi, I'm not very experienced MMORPG player (actually, I've never played MMORPG before ), thus I'd like to know whether there are good MMORPGs out there which allow you to download and try them for some time first, and not to purchase them in a store like your regular CRPG.
Oh by the way, I'd like to hear your suggestions about MMORPGs in general, e.g. which one is less powergaming oriented, which one has the best story and interesting areas for exploration, etc. |

Two games come to my mind for now. Project Entropia and Neocron.
Well, Project Entropia (scifi) has a downloadable client and no monthly costs either. BUT there is a catch... you pay for the services and items in game. So basically you should be able to play for free
Neocron (scifi too) offers a downloadable offline demo which could help you make a decision for it (I tried it and it looked quite okay). In the future, pretty soon actually, Neocron will offer a downloadable full client (you have to pay for the client though).
At the moment I don't know others like that. Mimesis Online could be, but I haven't checked it out for a while. _________________ =Moderator of General MMORPG talk forum=

I see this is a slightly old thread, but want to add Endless Ages to the list. You can download the client and play free for 5 days. It hasn't gotten much press (small, independent dev. co.), but is a very well done game. I'm having a lot of fun with it. Check it out! |

Since so many good SP games have been delayed I thought I'd dip my toes in the MMO water and bought AC2, today. At no point did it ask me to enter payment details - I presume that's the included free month's play but it would be nice if they forgot to bill me! |

You wish, Dhruin! One exact month after you installed that game, itīll freeze and demand you pay them your good dollars to allow you to play again. Make no illusions, they may be a company that deals with pleasure and entertainment, but they are still a company. And companies want money. _________________ CaptainWorshipperNonFlamer
