What is your system standard specifications?
The CTD problem will never goes away for some systems and come in different rates of occurrence (often, or occasional), while some peoples never experiencing the issue.
CTD in MW is a problem that never solved since the game came out. The link i provided only show a very small part of huge thread (need 3-4 hours to read through all) but as you can see it's already been trimmed now. No one find the accurate answer and effective solution to that problem. Here in this board you also find some threads regarding the issue as well. I believe it's the interplay between MW engine with certain system hardwares combinations, but still just one of the many theories about the problem.
Since 2002, i already upgraded many things in my system: added more RAM, got a faster processor, changed my motherboard, new DirectX9 video card, new power supply unit, added slot-in cooler, tried sound card Latency patch and VIA 4in1 patch, using clean Windows installation, new sound card and video drivers and you know what? - Morrowind still occasional CTD. What else? - open & close my room door? _________________

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I have exactly this problem. I bought GOTY, which I think includes the latest patches. It occasionally crashes to desktop on both the PCs I installed it on. Both comfortably exceed the recommended spec and have the latest drivers, BIOS, and chipset software. Both run XP - one Home and one Professional. When Morrowind crashes I see no error message and nothing is written to the event log. I have changed max FPS from 240 to 60 in the ini file but that makes no difference.
The supported video cards listed in the readme file are all ancient. Is that the problem? Has anyone managed to overcome these crashes? |

I don't think so. I have a system that is well above the required specs also with plenty of ram and supported cards and everything. I have noticed the farther you are into the game, the more likely it is to crash. I think it just takes up too much room and starts overwriting itself in mem. In any case, in any case, the only thing I can think of to do is quit every few hours or so and start back up. At least whole computer doesn't crash that way. _________________ Just watch out you don't stress yourself out.

Heh heh, that's an encouraging sign that this game's addictive. But it doesn't generally last that long for me before crashing.
The most annoying part is having to wait for all the intro and splash screens to trundle through when I restart it. Is there any way of speeding this up or bypassing them? |

Just press esc. Can't avoid the loading screens though. _________________ Just watch out you don't stress yourself out.

Not skip but seriously speed up if you were so inclined.
Remember RAM drives? Congrats, computers can now hold (nearly?) enough onboard memory to load Morrowind in its entirity into RAM. It would make the game run 10x faster, really... but saving would be pointless as the RAM is wiped every time you reboot.
Still, a wishful thought. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

I've installed both expansions and the latest patch, and it still crashes many times a day.
Guess there's nothing to do about that.....I'm just happy that MW is such a great game....Otherwise it would just be money down the drain. _________________ And remember...Only you shape your own future. |

I think it is just the complexity of the game. A computer probably can't handle something so heavy on graphics, programing, creatures, and what not for long periods of time. Just remember the old rule, "Save now, Save often" and it becomes nothing more then a severe inconvenence. |

I also had crashes, at least 1 per 2 hours :], probably there is really nothing we can do about it. Just say often enough. |
