Give opinions about Gothic controls

For a long time I have been wondering why the people hate Gothic controls, the fact that it doesn't use the mouse like other games etc. Personally, I love the controls of Gothic 1 because they are precise and close to real life: I mean, to pick up a flower, you must lock on it and then reach for it; to hit your opponent with the sword you must lock on him and then swing or advance and chop. I only use the keyboard, using arrows to move forward, back and turn, WASD to move forward, back and strafe, Z and X as action, C and V as jump and the rest as usual. What do the lovers of Gothic think about this?

Keyboard + mouse.

WASD to move forward, backward and strafe. Sometimes Q and E to move, but mainly mouse to look around. Left mouse button as Action, Right mouse button to jump. Rest as usual.

Simplified controls, I only use the mouse for combat, when I tried using the keyboard controls my character invariably ended up dead.

For me, G1 style keyboard only, a "complex" simplicity - so beautiful in ergonomic concept and function - does everything i command perfectly.

Responsive and challenging...two words come to mind. A hit is a hit, a block is a block and not statistically determined, where my quick fingers come into use. I hope G3 retains this somehow, don't ever make it easy.

@mudsling3,

Yes, very true (re: quick fingers) with keyboard i can block and strike with no gaps because when locked-on, 'strike' overrides 'block' while holding 'block' continuously.

It has been confirmed recently that the G1 controls will still be an option for die-hard gothic fans.
