Equipping/unequipping a Torch

Hello everyone, I just recently began playing Gothic 2 - my first foray into the Gothic world.

I have a simple question: When I'm carrying a torch, is there anyway to enter combat mode (drawing my sword) without automatically dropping the torch? Moreover, if I'm simply carrying the torch, how do I extinguish it and put it away?

Thanks for your help,
Mark

I have only played Gothic, but since both games are built on the same engine, I might be able to help. In Gothic, there is no way to draw your sword without dropping your torch. I hope I helped.

I didn't manage to keep my torch when fighting. I didn't try to put it back in GII, but in GI you could try to swim with the torch in hand which would put it back in yout pack.

You can extinguish a torch if you have other torches in your inventory.
Just click on the unlit torches, and the torch in your hand goes off and
gets added to the stack.

That's a cool trick, I'll remember it. But does that mean that you only need two torches to last the entire game?

Well, in Chapter II you get a Holy Light rune that even a mercenary
can use, so I guess that yes, two torches last for the whole game.
