Safedisc only gets applied at the very last stage of making a game, so I doubt the testers ever even got near a cd with it on.

you still need the CD in the drive. that's why the "patch" is complaining.

safedisc sucks balls! plug-ins rule, when used wisely.

Dude, the "patch" really does work wonders. I got the one where you don't need the CD, and it is SO much faster. The load times are quite short, and the FPS is 5%-!0% faster. i sure hope Bethesda finds a way to make the menu cursor faster, its kinda slow. you know, looking at the map and fiddling around with my inventory. seems kinda slow. there is a "morrowind FPS optimizer" avaiable, on a russian dudes site. it works too, and theres a cool feature that lets you push your distance view all the way out! it lets you see ALL THE WAY to the next loading place. very cool for screenshots.
i found the link on the official morrowind forums. plugins are very nifty.[img][/img]

This patch/workaround worked great on the release version - increased my FPS by about 10-15%. Any hope of updating it to work with the official Morrowind patch?

I use the russian guys FPS optimizer, but whenever I try to increase the view distance and move around I get some "activator not found for cliffracer00000" error message. Anyone have any clue why?

Don't know for sure, but try increasing your AI distance to full. My utterly unqualified guess is that it's somehow trying to interact with things that you can see, but that aren't currently able to think.

Be prepared to spend a lot of time on it!

I've been too busy to play recently, which is rather getting me down. The sooner my contract runs out and I go back to being unemployed the better!

Well the patch worked for me! My crappy 16meg card was only getting 2 fhps pretty much everywhere. With the patch i get 5-7 frames. At least now it is half playable until i get a better video card.

In case you haven't tweaked the other settings yet...

Turn AI and Draw Distance to the near end of the bar, turn dynamic shadows off (default) and turn menu transparency to none.

And make sure you're running the latest drivers for your card - upgrading the drivers turned my game from slow, unplayable and crashing on area load (couldn't get into the Customs and Excise office!) into fast, very playable and crash free! Yay!

Okay. I'll give that a hook. I was freezing up pretty bad at the office to, had to give it like 30 seconds or so.

I've been looking into cards. Is G-Force the way to go?
