NotR help with Lares and Dexter

I've got the quest to retrieve the ornaments for the the Water Mages's portal and have tried asking Lares for help...however, he just says for me to let him know when I'm ready and there doesn't appear to be any dialogue option to get him to lead me to the forest. How do I get Lares to escort me?

Also I've taken out Dexter and have reported his note to Vatras, but for some reason, the Bandits and Wanted Note quest is still in my current quest menu...is there any way to clear this out? Have I broken this quest?

Did you find somebody to replace Lares, so he can leave with you?
