Demo - Need help picking things up!

I downloaded the demo and I am having trouble picking things up. I am guessing it would be the action key (Right CTRL by default) but when I stand in front an item and click it they do nothing. I have also tried hitting every button on the key board (not at the same time) but was unable to figure out what was the trick to it. Can anyone help on this seemingly simple thing.

lol, i had the same problem, i tried to pick things up for like an hour and didn't work.

You need to go over the item so the item name is "lit up" then hold the left mouse button down and then push ctrl down.

If the item name doesn't appear then you need to push the space bar.

Left Mouse Button + UpArrow works for me.
